Windy Ridge Orchards

Windy Ridge Orchards is a family owned and run orchard where we grow 220 acres of apples and 20 acres of peaches. Our farm is located 15 miles North West of Grand Rapids. We harvest our fruit from June through October.

We pay very competitive wages. During the peach harvest our employees will be paid $7.40 per hour. Apple harvesters are guaranteed at least the minimum of $7.40 per hour but most employees earn more when picking at the piece rate of $13.00 per box. In addition a bonus of $2.00 per box is paid to those who stay until the end of harvest.

We employ 16 people for peaches from the beginning of June through the middle of September. In June we thin peaches until the fruit ripens in July. We harvest the fruit in the morning before the heat of the day. In the afternoon our workers are needed for light farm labor.

Apple harvest starts as the peaches are coming to the end of production in September. We employ 60 people for apples from the first of September through the end of October.

We provide free approved housing for all of our employees. Our houses each have private baths with showers and full kitchens. These units each house from 3-6 people. All employees are covered under workers compensation and unemployment benefits. Our housing is located within 5 to 10 miles of migrant day care, migrant health services, and great schools with busing for transportation. There are many choices nearby in Conklin, Sparta and Kent City for groceries, laundry, auto repair, and auto dealers as well as many other vendors. Grand Rapids is located 15 minutes away from the farm and has 3 large hospitals for emergencies.
