D & K Orchard has been a family business since 1950. We harvest apples, cherries, peaches and strawberries. We have 110 acres of apples, 12 acres of strawberries, 10 acres of cherries, and 10 acres of peaches. We are located 6 miles north of Lowell. We hire 20 to 25 workers for the harvest season. We are located 20 miles from greater Grand Rapids.Raspberries and strawberries are harvested by hand. Cherries, peaches and apples are harvested by hand using a ladder. There is also other general farm work such as thinning, suckering, etc to be done throughout the season.The housing is located in a quiet private area, away from the road and farm buildings. We make every effort to provide a clean and safe labor camp, and we do not charge for housing for our families that work for us. Housing area has swings set for children to play. We begin the season with strawberries that start in June and continue with cherries, raspberries, and peaches and than apples start in September.

The pay scale is based on piecework at competitive rates in the area, always at least minimum wage per hour. In our area, there are migrant health services, day care services and other supportive services.
