Crop Activity for February 3, 2010
The agriculture season is done here in Newaygo County. At this time
I am trying to work with our settled out Migrant and Seasonal Farm
workers. Very few non agriculture employers I contacted for January
were hiring at this time most of them are asking me to call them back
towards middle of February they are slowly starting to pick up. I
am still trying to encourage the settled out Migrant and Seasonal
Farm workers that are on unemployment and/or on some kind of assistance
to take advantage of the training opportunities offered through the
Foundation for Behavioral Resources. FBR has orientation every Wednesday
from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Applicants may call to make an appointment
at the Fremont MI Works office by calling 231-924-3230. Applicants
must be at the office by 1:45 p.m. to make sure they are registered
then go through the orientation. Barrier we are running into are still
with the non English speakers and those that do not have a GED or
HS Diploma. At this time do not have any licensed housing available.
Outstation office hours in Grant are Monday - Thurs. Between 10:00
a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 231-834-0299. Fridays in Fremont 8:00 a.m. - 5:00
p.m. 231-924-3230 Ext: 7930
